Zieta Prozessdesign

Inflatable style metal furniture

Although furniture made of metal can be widely seen nowadays, the metal furniture of Zieta Prozessdesign really surprised me a lot. Designer Oskar Zieta, who was born into a family of metalworking industries, invented the Freie Innen Druck Umformung Technology, which uses air to force the metal to expand and deform according to its natural properties. To explain in a simpler way, he welds the edges of two ultra-thin steel plates together to form a three-dimensional object under high-pressure expansion. This method of production is very environmentally friendly because it optimizes metal materials, reduces energy consumption, and is easy to recycle and reuse. Furniture made with FiDU technology often breaks the fixed impression of metal, gives people light and interesting visual effects, and brings a kind of magical expression to the home space.

Zieta Prozessdesign: Welcome

The core of his design, from my perspective, is the ‘uncontrollability’ of the result: even under strict parameter design and professional manufacturing techniques, the designer still cannot control its final shape completely, and the product is always full of artistic surprise. And at that circumstance, the process of product design can be regarded as an interesting game between technology and art, which I think is the reason why Oscar Zeta is addicted to it and in this way, each of these designs is an orphan. Among them, the mirror RONDO in the shape of concentric circles focuses people's sight with a balanced structure and becomes the dominant space vision.

The PLOOP stool is one of Oskar Zieta's masterpieces, which won the Red Dot Design Award in 2008. The stool is like an inflatable toy, but it still looks exquisite. Due to its metallic texture, it is easy to give people the impression of a combination of technology and the future.
